Back From Japan

April 12, 2012 by adminfredross

Peter Horvath, Victor Little, Fred Ross, Ray Obiedo Japan April 2012

Back from a successful tour with my man Pee Wee Ellis.  We were  in Japan this tour for four day’s (eight shows at the Cotton Club).  We brought the  funk from the Bay Area as most of the cats John Mader, Ray Obiedo, Victor Little, Peter Horvath live in and around San Francisco.  The only player (besides Pee Wee) not from the Bay Area was Gary Winters on trumpet, tearing it up as usual, Gary is from Hanover, by way of Cincinnati. The Cotton Club was very attentive and gracious, the audiences were fun and Pee Wee made them very much part of the show. It was my first trip to Japan, and I hope we get a chance to return soon.  Thanks to the Cotton Club and their entire staff, the Blue Note organization , Pee Wee ,Charlotte, and the Funky Bay Area cats. Big fun ,great laughs , And crazy jazzy, funky music.

Peace,

Fred Ross

Hey It’s me….

March 28, 2012 by adminfredross

I’m back….Been away for a bit taking care of myself, so  here’s what’s been happening.  The Fred Ross Project @ The Starlight Room in the past month had the likes of our former Mayor (Da Mayor Mr. Willie Brown ) stop by to pay us a visit. FYI, my parents had a upholstery business for about 40 years or so, and Willie Brown was one my mom and dad’s clients. It was really good to see him. Over the past 15 years that I’ve been at the Starlight room, Willie  frequently stops by to hang out with us. Also, Brian Copeland From 7 live also dropped in. And then there was my good friend Mr. Dick Bright, whom I’ve worked with in the past and still do private parties and such and Mr.Buddy Love .  As for my band what can I say smoking as usual.

More to come shortly peace & lots of love ,
Fred Ross

Update on Tony Saunders gig

January 30, 2012 by adminfredross

Ray Obiedo/Tony Saunders
Ray Obiedo/Tony Saunders

A week ago Saturday (January 21st)  I was at George’s in San Rafael with Tony Saunders and the Romancing The Bass Band . The show started with the Ray Obiedo Latin Jazz Band featuring some amazing players, extremely cool vibe from the audience.  I saw some old friends I have not seen in years. I was asked by Ray and David K Mathews (from the Carlos Santana band) to sing “At Last” by Etta James do to her recent passing. Dave played with her  for a number of years and I was more than happy to sing the song with him, and for Etta.   What a talent and what a song . May she rest in peace. Tony Saunders and the band kick into gear and the crowd responded Rich Aguon on drums and vocals was amazing Nikita and Misa sang … Allen Leong and Bill Hampton did what they always do no matter whom they are performing with.. Tony of course slapping and making the crowd feel welcome. All in all a fun show. Be Blessed FRED Ross
